Hay Arrives-Many Thanks

We were offered a good deal on some hay from Natures Own Pets: 50 bags of XL hay (which we use)  for just £125. As the weather is getting colder, we need to get the hay in, sooner rather than later.
Natures Own Pets Hay is IDEAL for us as it stores away easily, which is essential in our limited space.
A
s we are only a small charity, we very rarely have cash available up front. We asked for support on Facebook and Twitter, and had some reasonable response. Thankfully customers of FurEver Friends in Hucknall, Nottingham were able to top up the money. We were able to order the hay which arrived today. This will keep us going a wheek or 2 ;)
So a massive Thank You to EVERYONE who helped us out and donated towards the Hay and of course a HUGE Thank You to Natures Own Pets for your generous offer!!!

Don't forget you can DONATE at any time. We have over 200 little mouths to feed, and we rely 100% on public donations and goodwill.

Now available-Supreme Petfoods Charity Calendar

Supreme Petfoods recently ran a competition on Facebook to find a charity to support. We were fortunate enough to win this competition!! Supreme Petfoods then asked people to send them photos of their cute pets to be judged to feature on a calendar. Once the feature pets were picked, it was announced that all pictures (of reasonable quality) would be on the calendar...one for each day. All proceeds of the sale of this cute animals calendar come back to Avalon!

The calendar is now ready to buy!!

Help Avalon by getting your 2014 wall planner here.

Mummy pig rejects her babbas

These baby piggies were born today to a guinea pig who presumably wasn't ready to be a mum. The babies are all much smaller than we would hope for of newborns. Shockingly, in a display of very UNUSUAL behaviour the mummy pig started nibbling at her babies. She has chewed off the back foot and some of the front toes of this poor little one. She has also had a nibble at some of her other babies' ears. Shaz is doing what she can to save the babies and make them as comfortable as possible. She has separated mum and babies and the babies are now being looked after by another piggy who recently became a mummy. This behaviour is NOT normal behaviour and we can only guess why she would have behaved in such a way.

Bark in the Park 2013

Shaz and Leanne from Avalon Guinea Pig Rescue visited Shipley Country Park yesterday for the Annual 'Bark in the Park' event which raises money and awareness for local charities. With various charities and plenty of animals around it was an interesting day full of laughs and cheers as well as tears from some of the sights we saw.

Avalon would like to thank Derbyshire County Council as well as give a quick mention to a few of the other rescues that were at the event yesterday. Without their continued passion and efforts, many animals would not be here today.

Please Help

These ladies should've been for snake food and were crammed into an 18x18 inches box 2 inches deep in chicken poo and feathers.
They all came in pregnant, with hair loss due to mites and emaciated... the black girl on her own in the pic was squashed at he bottom of the box unable to stand and was being trampled on struggling for breath.. she was removed from the box and couldn't stand on her own. Her stomach was bloated possibly due to loss of her babies that had died inside or/and the wrong food.she lasted an hour !

We also need urgent donations of decent hay (Timothy Hay) and large bags of guinea pig food and bales of shavings

Please donate what you can HERE
